Indian optometrist Chandrashekhar Chawan from India's Shekhar Eye Research Centre has come up another way to put those diamonds to use - in contact lenses.
Inspired by the jewels in his wife's teeth, he decided to literally put a twinkle in the eye. While not many may appreciate what's gone into these limited edition lenses, Chawan thinks they will be a hit with those in Bollywood. With only 3,996 lenses to be produced, they will be available outside India too for a cool Rs. 5 lakh to Rs. 7 lakh a pair. Weighing a mere 5gm, they fit between 6mm and 9mm from the cornea.
According to a report, profits from the sale of the lenses will go to a fund that treats patients from Stevens Johnson Syndrome - a skin disease that affects the tear glands, and gradually leads to a loss of vision.
